Fortnite champ 'Bugha' swatted while streaming

Since winning the Fortnite tournament and walking away with an unbelievable $3 million (£2.4 million), Bugha has already faced hackers targeting his social media accounts - but this is the first (and hopefully only) time he's been swatted.

Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf, the recently crowned 16-year-old Fortnite World Cup champion, was swatted yesterday while streaming on Twitch.

Bugha was playing Fortnite Arena Trios with Ghost Gaming's Timothy "Bizzle" Miller and FaZe Clan's Danny "Dubs" Walsh last night when the incident happened. A subsequent clip captured the streamer's return and explanation of events: "Yeah, I got swatted". Giersdorf said he was a victim of "swatting" over the weekend. I was lucky because the one officer, he lives in our neighborhood.

"They come in with guns, bro. That's scary. The internet's f--ing insane".

Fortunately, one of the officers who arrived at Bugha's house lived in the area and recognized the video game prodigy, averting any potential disaster.

Police headed to the Giersdorf home and surrounded it. Werner said it's procedure to then call into the home. The caller told police he had killed his father, shooting him multiple times, and tied up his mother in the garage.

Giersdorf was streaming "Fortnite" when his father informed him that "armed police" were at the front door.

Werner said that police believe that the call came from Europe.

Swatting is becoming a big problem in gaming, and holds serious criminal consequences - 26-year-old Tyler Barriss was sentenced to 20 years after calling in a fake emergency on a Call of Duty opponent back in March, which led to the death of a 28-year-old man in Wichita.
