Magnitude 4.6 earthquake hits just outside Seattle

The outskirts of Seattle were hit with a 4.6 magnitude quake overnight on Thursday less than a week after a much stronger one rattled California.

There were no early reports of injuries and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said there was no tsunami risk.

Two minutes later, a 3.5 magnitude quake was detected near Monroe, Washington.

The Washington State Department of Transportation said in a tweet that the agency would be inspecting bridges Friday morning, but had no reports of damage.

An interactive map on the USGS website shows several dozen people in the Vancouver area reported feeling the shaking.

Further south along the Pacific coast, a magnitude 4.9 aftershock of last week's Southern California earthquakes was felt widely in the region on Friday morning. There was a magnitude 6.4 quake centered in Ridgecrest, California, July 4 and a 7.1 on July 5 in the same area.
