Federer sets up title battle with Djokovic

"I am sad for the loss because for me it was another opportunity", said Nadal, who was also beaten in the semi-finals a year ago by Djokovic.

Nadal pushed him all the way though and Federer required five match points to finally settle the tie, which was met with a standing ovation when it finally concluded. But the infinitely cool, eternally unflappable Swiss has got ice in his veins, ruthlessness belied by his gentlemanly disposition. But on the fifth, a Nadal backlong went long and it was all over after three hours and six minutes on Centre Court.

In terms of winning the tournament, the Serbian is 7/10 to defend his title, followed by Rafael Nadal at 16/5 and Roger Federer at 4/1.

"Then whatever happens externally is, I guess, a effect or manifestation of that".

Federer opened the encounter with an ace, his 43rd of the tournament.

Back in 2008, both Federer and Nadal were undoubtedly in the prime of their respective careers, so to expect the encore from the veterans to be anything close would be a mistake, or so we thought.

This time, Federer came through, although he needed five match points to secure his 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

This will be the 47th meeting all time between the two all-time greats, after Federer knocked off another one of his rivals, Rafael Nadal, in the semifnials.

"[I'm] sad for the loss because for me was another opportunity", he said.

Korea vows to respond to South’s purchase of F-35 jets
The first two arrived in March and two others are to be delivered in coming weeks, according to Seoul officials. South Korea is to buy 40 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin by 2021.

For the first time since 2007, men's tennis's Big Three have all reached the semifinals at Wimbledon and few would bet against Novak Djokovic going at least a step further on Friday.

Nadal then broke again for 5-1 as Federer suffered a sudden and severe power outage with the two-time champion comfortable levelling the contest.

There was no rain break, no twilight five-set drama and no Wimbledon trophy on offer on Friday but none of that bothered ageless Swiss maestro Roger Federer. In their head-to-head record, he was 2-18 when dropping the opener.

Nadal saved the only break point of the set at 4-3, as Federer netted a backhand after a 21-stroke rally.

Federer and Nadal are both visibly different. Just one of those initial 14 points came via his own victor; 10 resulted from Bautista Agut's unforced errors. Federer rattled off a pair of stinging first serves to reach 6-3, then claiming the bracket with a forehand strike.

But Federer's experience ensured that he eventually closed out the match quite comfortably. Djokovic is eyeing a fifth championship at Wimbledon and 16th major title. Running dead straight for the net-post, Federer flicks his wand one more time for a trademark one-handed backhand that screeches millimeters over the net tape with equal parts pace and topspin. "He plays with such velocity and spins and everything, you're not always sure you're going to connect the right way".

The Spaniard may be the greatest fighter the world of sport has ever seen, and so it was no surprise to see him conjure some moments of sheer brilliance to take the second set 6-1 and level the match. Federer amassed 10 break points, and though he succeeded on just two, that was enough, with the last, vital conversion making it 2-1 in the fourth set. Then he shanked an ugly overhead smash off the edge of his racquet frame, which gave Nadal a break point glimmer.

¯ Tension rises in the crowd as Nadal rallies in the face of a match point - the two titans battle on a rally of attrition for what McEnroe can only describe as "a staggering point" that ends with an all-to-typical Nadal forehand.
