It was an impressive display, but all that could have gone for naught if he hadn't been sharp on one final restart.

Logano got his second win of the season at Michigan International Speedway, edging out Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr.

Joey Logano's victory at MI on Monday gave Team Penske its fifth Cup win of the season.

"You run into a little bit of dirty air", Busch said after the race. It took a little more than 10 laps, but when the cycle was complete with 15 laps left Logano was back in front by almost a second over Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch.

The rainy weather this spring which played havoc with local high school sports schedules frustrated NASCAR crews and fans Sunday at Michigan International Speedway as the FireKeepers Casino 400 had to be postponed to Monday.

"I don't know how we get a no-call on that, or maybe the rules are - I guess you can just do whatever you want on the restarts now."

You bet - but they might not have done anything differently if they were in Logano's situation at that moment.

"We were able to make some adjustments and come back, and I'm proud of my guys". "I had a good start, though, wasn't it?" They all drive for Gibbs at the moment, so perhaps Team Penske should feel a bit relieved after taking advantage of its opportunity at MI, where JGR has won only one of the past 15 races.

"We review all starts and restarts from the tower and we looked at it and felt like he was in the restart zone", Sawyer said. The win is Ford's 682nd all-time in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competition.

It came after Ford teams and drivers were practically ordered to get a win by Edsel Ford III during a dinner last week.

If there's such a thing as indifferent controversy, it's what we got after Monday's NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway.

Irving will become free agent
For years now, there has been speculation about whether one of Ainge's next deals will involve Pelicans star Anthony Davis . By declining it, he'd be eligible to sign a five-year deal worth nearly $190 million with the Celtics.

The race was held Monday after being rained out Sunday. Austin Dillon won that stage.

Denny Hamlin quickly ducked to Logano's inside to take the lead as the race began, but Logano fought back to maintain the spot.

Logano punched the gas, the backend stepped out, he left tire marks and he still put a gap on everyone by the time he got to the flag stand. Six laps later, Logano took back the lead yet again.

The fast-paced action returns to Michigan International Speedway in August for a pair of races. Truex had cut that to 0.153 after lap 195, and Kurt Busch was right there too - but that all became moot because of the last caution.

"That's more than I was hoping to see for damage, but I had a blast", Busch said.

Busch finished second, and is still looking for his first win on the season. Both Busch brothers trailed them in the second row with Kyle on the outside and Kurt on the inside. "That doesn't happen very often in our sport", said Logano, the defending series champion. "I thought we were supposed to go in the box". "But this time we had the speed and had the execution going along with it".

Logano and Brad Keselowski are first and third in the Cup standings for Penske.

It's been quite a few weeks for Penske, who won his 18th Indianapolis 500 thanks to Simon Pagenaud and now has the points leader in NASCAR with Logano. Ford won both races previous year and had eight of the top 10 cars in qualifying this past weekend. Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer won the two Cup races at MIS a year ago. Bowyer was out of it after he went into the wall early in the final stage.

Stewart-Haas Racing's Harvick, an eight-race victor a year ago, finished seventh to remain winless in 2019.

"We had a really fast Busch Light Ford and just made a lot of mistakes today", Harvick said.

The series takes next weekend off before resuming June 23 at Sonoma.
