It has been exactly one year since North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump met in Singapore for the first ever talks between the leaders of their two countries.

"We have a very good relationship together", said Trump Tuesday.

"I know that the relationship is such that that wouldn't happen under my auspices", he said.

Trump did not divulge what was in the letter from Kim.

Trump's comments came as he continued to lavish praise on Kim Jong Un, who has aggressively pursued a nuclear weapons program while running a government accused of brutal human rights abuses, even after a breakdown in their nuclear talks earlier this year in Vietnam.

The U.S. and its allies accused North Korea of importing more petroleum so far this year than allowed under United Nations sanctions, according to a report to a Security Council committee.

In spite of speculation that the summit in Hanoi in February failed, Trump said that he is ready for the third meeting.

There is some speculation he met with intelligence officials in those countries as well.
