Press Secretary Sarah Sanders Leaving at the End of June

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders Leaving at the End of June

US President Donald Trump says White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders will leave her job at the end of the month. "Sarah, thank you for a job well done!" he continued in a second tweet.

Trump tweeted the announcement on Twitter on Thursday, saying Sanders was leaving at the end of June. "I know he is going to have an incredible six more years and get a whole lot more done", she said.

Instead, Sanders would occasionally book appearances on Fox News and hold brief question-and-answer sessions with reporters on the driveway of the White House.

"I've loved every minute, even the hard minutes", she said.

By 3 1/2 years, Trump is likely counting the time that Huckabee Sanders served as Spicer's Deputy Press Secretary, as well as an official on the Trump presidential campaign.

Sanders said serving as press secretary had been "an honor of a lifetime".

She has also been accused of telling lies to reporters, although she denies this. Sources close to Sanders told CBS News she was planning on leaving previous year, but decided against that after her then-principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah chose to leave the administration.

As press secretary, Ms Huckabee-Sanders was contradicted by elements of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report into Russian influence in the 2016 election. It isn't immediately clear who will replace her.

Sources close to the White House have said that Sanders' has privately discussed running for the office herself, according to CNN. "I will miss her honest love of country & great sense of humor at the @WhiteHouse - no matter what the future holds, I wish her (and her handsome family) the very best!"
