‘PM Imran, Modi exchange pleasantries in Bishkek’

The Shanghai Cooperation Summit was recently held in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek on Thursday. Pakistan shares deep rooted historical and cultural links with SCO Member States. "In a major outcome of the visit, both countries have made a decision to add strategic dimension to our ties to boost our relationship in defence & security, trade & investment, health, education & development cooperation, among other areas", External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted after the talks between the two leaders.

The invitation to the Prime Minister was extended by Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, who would Chair the CHS Meeting.

Although Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was at the dinner, no pleasantries were exchanged between PM Modi and him.

"We hope that our tension with India decreases, so we do not have to buy arms because we want to spend money on human development. I already met the prime minister of Russian Federation in China on my first visit", Sputnik News had quoted PM Imran as saying.

"We are among the few countries to have successfully turned the tide against terrorism", the Pak PM said, adding,"we will remain actively engaged in SCO's counter-terrorism initiatives".

The two countries agreed to strengthen land and air connectivity between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Huawei Delays Launch of New Windows Laptop Due to US Ban
The company was convinced that it could become the world's biggest-selling smartphone vendor in 2019 even without the USA market. The US has banned sales of technology to Huawei, which uses Intel chips and the Windows operating system in its MateBook PCs.

Modi's move also suggests there is little chance of a thaw in ties even though Pakistan said it hoped to revive talks after elections in India ended in May. He said political differences and unresolved disputes further compound the predicament.

Ahead of the Modi's visit to Kyrgyzstan, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has approved the signing and ratification of bilateral investment treaty between India and Kyrgyzstan.

Prime Minister Modi reached Bishkek this afternoon to attend the two-day meeting of Council of Heads of States (CHS) of SCO summit.

The state leaders enjoyed a four-course meal for about 45 minutes.

The prime minister is set to address two sessions of the meeting.

The SCO is a China-led eight-member economic and security bloc with India and Pakistan being admitted to the grouping in 2017.
