China says nobody wants war after tanker attacks in Gulf of Oman

"You know they did it because you saw the boat", the president said in the live, wide-ranging interview. "I guess one of the mines didn't explode and it's probably got essentially Iran written all over it".

Trump did not preview any potential US response to the attack, saying the USA has been "very tough on sanctions".

"We strongly condemn the attacks no matter who is behind them", the ministry said in a statement.

"They're not going to be closing it. They are not ready, and neither are we!" Some analysts are speculating that Donald Trump's renewed sanctions against Iran are beginning to bite.

The U.S. and our regional partners are assisting in the response to attacks in the Gulf of Oman. In recent years, the IRGC Navy has steadily supplanted Iran's conventional Navy all along Iran's Gulf coast, from its border with Kuwait in the north all the way down to Pakistan and the Arabian Sea. The land mass in the upper right hand corner is Iran.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is blaming Iran for Thursday's attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, off the Iranian coast.

Pompeo's remarks come amid an escalating conflict between the USA and Iran that was sparked following Washington abandoning the Iran anti-nuclear agreement past year.

It is nearly certain that a branch of the Iranian military - the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - attacked the two tankers on 13 June. After the attack, the Front Altair burned for hours, sending up long clouds of thick, black smoke into the air.

The attacks - on one Norwegian-operated and one Japanese-owned ship - were just the latest assaults on the region's energy infrastructure, which have been widely blamed on Iran or Tehran-backed militia groups.

The crew were originally rescued by a merchant ship, Hyundai Dubai, and were then taken into Iranian custody.

The US said that actor was Iran, an accusation Tehran denied.

Analysts say Iran, if involved, wouldn't want investigators to find an unexploded mine because they could check its serial numbers and other attributes to trace it.

A Revolutionary Guard patrol boat pulled alongside the ship and the crew aboard removed the mine, Captain Urban said.

Denman also shared a video with his pal at the game, in which Krasinski said he was bummed Fischer couldn't make it to the game. And I think it's just an exciting series for hockey, and I just think at the end of the day it's about hockey.

Captain Bill Urban, a central command spokesperson termed the attack as a "clear threat to global freedom of navigation and freedom of commerce". "However, we will defend our interests". Iran also denied those accusations.

It was not immediately clear what befell the tankers, the Norwegian-owned Front Altair and the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous, which both suffered explosions, forcing crews to abandon the vessels, leaving them adrift in waters between Gulf Arab states and Iran. Company president Yutaka Katada offered no evidence for his claim, which contradicted the us military account.

Two oil tankers near the strategic Strait of Hormuz were reportedly attacked on Thursday.

The Front Altair was carrying naphtha, a refined petroleum product, and is owned by Frontline, an Oslo-listed company.

USS Mason, another guided-missile destroyer, has been dispatched to the scene to ensure the Iranian vessels stay away from all commercial shipping. Joshua Frey, a 5th Fleet spokesman.

Britain also shares Pompeo's assessment Iran is to blame for two attacks, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Thursday's blasts followed a similar attacks a month earlier on four tankers, which Washington also blamed on Tehran. Limpet mines are usually attached to a target by magnet. The explosions from the mines were created to disable ships, not to sink them.

In an earlier tweet, Zarif hinted at a conspiracy, noting that the tankers, one owned by a Japanese firm, occurred as Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

It added that the "attacks are a clear threat to worldwide freedom of navigation and freedom of commerce". He didn't elaborate and took no questions.

The tensions between the U.S. and Iran are already high over the USA pullout from the 2015 nuclear accord and the reimposition of economic sanctions.

Iran said it was being used as a "convenient" scapegoat.

That's putting a desperate Tehran on course to violate its terms of the nuclear deal.
