Amanda Knox Has Returned To Italy To Talk About Wrongful Convictions

Knox arrived at Milan's Linate airport en route to the northern city of Modena, where she is scheduled to participate Saturday in a panel discussion on wrongful convictions.

Amanda Knox is back in Italy for the first time since 2011, when she was freed from prison after an appeals court acquitted her of the 2007 slaying of her British roommate.

Knox, 31, was invited to speak at a conference organized by the Italy Innocence Project, which works to aid those falsely accused and charged.

"I'm about to return to Italy for the first time since I was released from prison and fled the country in a high-speed chase, paparazzi literally ramming the back of my stepdad's rental vehicle", Knox wrote in a Medium post.

In 2009, she and her boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito, were first convicted of the 2007 murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher. After a retrial and a series of controversies, Italy's highest court annulled Knox's convictions in 2015.

The Belgian is new manager Antonio Conte 's top target and wants to leave Old Trafford for the San Siro this summer. He added: "With the transfer of [Cristiano] Ronaldo, I think the Italian league is now coming back.

Knox was an American student studying overseas in Perugia in 2007 when she was accused of brutally murdering roommate Meredith Kercher, 21, who was found half-naked with her throat cut in her bedroom.

The 21-year-old had been stabbed 47 times and had her throat slashed. Knox left Italy as soon as she was released, ABC News reported. "Amanda has been definitively acquitted in court, but in the popular imagination she is still guilty, because she has been the victim of a barbaric media trial".

In January 2019, the European Court of Human Rights ordered Italy to pay $20,000 in damages to Knox for failing to provide her legal assistance during her initial questioning after Kercher's murder, according to the AP.

Knox wrote on Twitter that she had declined to conduct interviews ahead of her panel appearance.

"While on trial for a murder I didn't commit, my prosecutor painted me as a sex-crazed femme fatale, and the media profited for years by sensationalizing an already sensational and utterly unjustified story", Knox wrote. She also appeared in "Amanda Knox", a 2016 Netflix documentary about her case.
