Putin, Austrian president to discuss Iran

Putin, Austrian president to discuss Iran

Moscow hopes Washington will cooperate to provide security guarantees for North Korea as part of denuclearization negotiations, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday following a meeting in Sochi with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The senior research fellow at the European Research Centre of the International Relations Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladimir Olenchenko, noted that Russia and the United States really have to strive to restore full-fledged relations. But they often find themselves on opposite sides, even if they share a stated basic goal.

Ties between the two countries have been damaged by allegations - denied by Moscow - that Russian Federation tried to influence the results of the 2016 United States presidential election, and by differences over Iran, Syria, Ukraine and Venezuela. That followed the cancellation of talks planned for Paris during November 11 commemorations for the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Mr Lavrov said: "We will attempt to clarify with him how the Americans are planning to come out of the crisis they created with their unilateral decisions".

And he did say that the USA does not want to have war.

Other topics for Tuesday's meeting included Iran, Ukraine and Venezuela.

Lavrov, whom Pompeo met in Sochi ahead of talks with President Vladimir Putin, dismissed as "fiction" speculation that President Trump had colluded with Moscow in his election campaign.

Trump, he said, wants the United States and Russian Federation "to do everything we can" to create a future that is "more successful" for both countries and the world as a whole. Far from toeing the Washington line, the European Union foreign ministers declared their "continued support for the JCPOA, including on delivering on the benefits of the deal for the Iranian people".

Trump And Giuliani Are Publicly Conspiring With A Foreign Power
Adam Schiff insisted Sunday morning that the nation would not survive another four years of President Donald Trump . Trump pressing a foreign government to pursue investigations that his allies hope could help him win re-election.

"However exotic the work of special counsel Mueller was, I have to say that on the whole, he had a very objective investigation", Putin said, according to a translator.

"Pompeo said, 'We fundamentally do not seek a war with Iran". It was Pompeo's first visit to Russian Federation as the top USA diplomat.

Most Latin American and European nations recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela, whose crumbling economy has prompted millions to flee.

Experts said the meetings in Sochi demonstrated that even in cases when US and Russian interests overlap in certain parts of the world, it should be viewed as a mere coincidence, rather than a pattern.

"We want and we are ready to deal with cyber-security issues along with our American partners, without any politicization", he said.

And as you mentioned before, I mean, the origin of this meeting today was that phone call that Trump and Putin had.

Trump on Monday announced that he expected a "very fruitful meeting" with Putin and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Japan, only for Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to deny Washington had requested such a meeting and say there were "no agreements so far".
