The PGA of America gave Daly permission because he has a knee problem.

"I wanted to play at Quail Hollow, but to be honest with you, I wasn't ready yet to start the grind of practicing and preparing and logging all those hours again, " Woods said of the Wells Fargo Championship, which he skipped two weeks ago. "We try and use common sense, what's reasonable, what's fair for the protection both of the player and those issues as well as the playing of a major championship".

The facts are, Daly has arthritis in his right knee and said he can not walk much downhill.

Fifth-ranked Justin Thomas withdrew from the tournament with a right wrist injury, denying this from being the first major tournament with all of the world's 100 top players in the field.
