James Wan-Produced MORTAL KOMBAT Filming Down Under

James Wan-Produced MORTAL KOMBAT Filming Down Under

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall announced today that the city's highly touted Adelaide Studios facility in Glenside has been tapped by New Line Cinema as the production location for the upcoming remake of the tremendously craptastic 1995 video game movie.

Pre-production will begin later this month, with the shoot to take place at the Adelaide Studios, with post-production and VFX also to be done in SA.

Producer James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring films) is on board the film, which will be the feature directorial debut of award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid.

The most recent draft of the screenplay was written by Greg Russo.

'Mortal Kombat will enhance the scope and reach of our production and post-production capabilities'.

The Basketball World Reacted To The Cavs Hiring John Beilein
He reportedly interviewed for the Detroit Pistons coaching job last season, but ultimately signed the extension with MI . He led MI to two Final Fours and four Big Ten tournament and regular-season titles in his 12-year run in Ann Arbor.

Todd Garner (Isn't It Romantic, Tag) also produces, with Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, True Lies), E. Bennett Walsh (Men in Black: International, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Michael Clear (The Nun, Lights Out), and Sean Robins (Playing with Fire, Tag) executive producing.

"I'm really happy and excited to be bringing another show back to Australia with Mortal Kombat, especially after having such a great experience filming Aquaman". The announcement marks the largest production in South Australia history, a fitting accolade for a film that traverses Earth and other realms.

No casting or plot details for the new Mortal Kombat were available at the time of writing, however there is long-running speculation Wan's involvement means the film is angling for a gorier, R-rated tone. Murmurs about a new film in the venerable fighting game series have been doing the rounds for years now, so it's good to see something finally materialise after all this time.

Planned as a reboot of the 1997 Mortal Kombat movie by Paul W.S Anderson, Mortal Kombat aims to bring the furious fighter back onto the big screen.
