Trump blasts Omar as 'anti-Semitic' and 'anti

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took time out from an official trip to issue a strong statement urging Trump to remove the clip featuring Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar. An upstate NY man was recently charged with making death threats against her. By mid-afternoon the message had been removed, although at least one other anti-Omar retweet remained in Trump's feed.

"President Trump must take down his disrespectful and risky video", she said, adding that security officials are reviewing Ms Omar's protection and "will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces".

On "The Late Show", Omar addressed the recent accusations of anti-Semitism and blamed the fierce criticism she often encounters on a "double standard", which she noted is "very much embedded in a lot of our culture these days".

Cair, she said, was founded "because they recognised that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties".

The president posted a video last Friday of her speech to the California chapter of CAIR - the Council on American-Islamic Relations which was founded in 1994.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders questioned why Democrats weren't following Trump's example and calling out Omar, too. Sanders claims that the president wishes no 'ill will and certainly not violence towards anyone'.

Pelosi also condemned Trump's attack, saying that "The President's words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger".

Rep. Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat who represents Manhattan's financial district, which was targeted on 9/11, said he had no issues with Omar's characterization of the attack.

Patrick Carlineo Jr. of Addison, New York, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, the U.S. Department of Justice said. If you listen to more than those four words, though, it's obvious that that's not what she was saying.

Since the president's tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life - many directly referencing or replying to the president's video. "It has to stop", Omar wrote in a tweeted statement. Mr. Trump vowed in the tweet that "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!"

Republican critics said that her comment "some people did something" was offensive to the almost 3,000 Americans killed in the attacks. She later sought to defend herself by tweeting a quote from former U.S. President George W. Bush.

The statement even prompted the father of a New York firefighter who died on September 11, 2001, to pen an op-ed in the New York Post titled, "My FDNY son's death on 9/11 was more than just 'something'". She won't back down to Trump's racism and hate, and neither will we.

"I find her comments to be absolutely disgraceful and unbefitting of a member of Congress and I think that it's a good thing that the President is calling her out for those comments, and the big question is why aren't Democrats doing it as well".

But, she added: "It's absolutely abhorrent the comments she continues to make and has made and (Democrats) look the other way".

Omar repeatedly has pushed fellow Democrats into uncomfortable territory with comments about Israel and the strength of the Jewish state's influence in Washington. "This is particularly concerning given the president's visit to my home state of Minnesota on Monday", she said.

What further proof other than the relentless attacks on Omar is needed to illustrate that nearly 18 years after 9/11, American Muslims are neither safe from violence nor free from suspicion and blame; whether they are selling hot dogs from a food truck or sitting in Congress.
