Measles is extremely contagious disease that can be risky, especially for babies and young children. It can cause a high fever, a severe rash and brain swelling (encephalitis).

Symptoms usually start within seven to 14 days after exposure.

Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis (reddened eyes) and/or runny nose. In February, the department increased the recommended MMR vaccine dose for children between ages 6 months and 11 months who live in Williamsburg and Borough Park. Unvaccinated individuals may dial 311 to get a list of providers that offer MMR vaccines with minimal to low cost.
