'Mary Tyler Moore Show' actress Georgia Engel dies at 70

According to a close friend, her cause of death will remain unknown without an autopsy because she was Christian Scientist.

Speaking to The Toronto Star in 2007, Engel recalled how her most famous role had started out as a much smaller part.

Engel, twice Emmy-nominated for playing Ted Baxter's girlfriend-then-wife Georgette Franklin/Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore and thrice-nominated for Everybody Loves Raymond, died Friday in Princeton, New Jersey.

She was "the sweetest, kindest, dearest woman".

Engel could be as upbeat as the fictional Georgette, as was demonstrated during a panel discussion past year promoting the 2018 PBS special, Betty White: First Lady of Television.
