Luke Walton agreeing to part ways as head coach

The Lakers have contacted Tyronn Lue regarding their vacant head coaching job and have been granted permission to do the same with 76ers assistant Monty Williams, ESPN and Yahoo Sports reported on Saturday.

Last time the Kings went looking for a new head coach, they conducted an exhaustive search that dragged on for nearly a month as they sifted through a dozen candidates before zeroing in on Dave Joerger.

The Lakers finished 10th in the Western Conference with a record of 37-45, more than 10 wins short of what they were projected for in the beginning of the season.

While Johnson and Pelinka felt the roster they had constructed was capable of making noise in the playoffs, others around the league felt Walton had been handed a ticking time bomb.

The Lakers had cursory discussions with Walton's representatives on Wednesday in which they discussed whether there was a way forward, multiple sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Following the blast, Qadir Nayil, a Hazara community leader, asked the Pakistan government to ensure better protection for them. According to the report, Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the blast and sought an inquiry report of the attack.

Walton, a native of Los Angeles, has spent the majority of his career, both as a player and as a coach, with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers and Walton mutually agreed to part ways on Friday.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought that they were setting Luke up to fail [with that roster]", one National Basketball Association assistant coach said.

However his position came under scrutiny as the Lakers struggled to challenge for the playoffs in their first season since signing LeBron James. "I want my coach on the same page".
