Freshman Democrat Ocasio-Cortez says cutting aid to Israel 'on the table'

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who has compared retaliatory Israeli actions at the Gaza border against demonstrators urged on by Hamas to a "massacre", said on Sunday that decreasing the annual $3.8 billion in U.S. taxpayer assistance to Israel should certainly be "on the table".

Ocasio-Cortez drew an implied analogy to USA policy on the southern border, where Trump last week implied that the policy of detaining immigrants and removing their children was an effective deterrent to illegal immigration.

Ocasio-Cortez also spoke highly of Sanders, who she campaigned for in 2016. Interviewed Sunday on the Yahoo News "Skullduggery" podcast, the freshman Democrat from NY added: "I think that Netanyahu is a Trump-like figure".

But, she added: "It's absolutely abhorrent the comments she continues to make and has made and (Democrats) look the other way". House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday criticized the president for using the "sacred" memory of 9/11 for a political attack.

Her ability to effectively use social media prompted her to host a jam-packed Twitter training session for other members of Congress in January. I think it has effects on everybody.

"I think these are part of conversations we are having in our caucus, but I think what we are really seeing is an ascent of authoritarianism across the world. Increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism". "And I said don't talk like the Founding Fathers on Twitter".

A spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post that "the congresswoman's words speak for themselves" when asked to comment.

While many of Ocasio-Cortez's critics and fans believe that her social media game is her greatest strength, Ocasio-Cortez has become a frequent punching bag on social media as numerous things that she posts are false, offensive, or both.
