Cheika won't pick 'disrespectful' Folau after anti-gay row

Cheika won't pick 'disrespectful' Folau after anti-gay row

He says he feels love towards all the people who had vented a negative reaction.

The Wallabies coach says Folau's comments are too damaging to team culture to warrant another selection.

When asked if the fallout has made him reconsider his comments, though, Folau replied: "Absolutely not".

Folau, who broke the record for Super Rugby tries earlier this month, also tweeted a screenshot of the news that Tasmania last week became the first Australian jurisdiction to make gender optional on birth certificates.

"Whatever His will is, whether that's to continue playing or not, I'm more than happy to do what He wants me to do", he told the Herald.

Many current players though took to social media to speak out against his comments.

Folau, speaking at a Truth Of Jesus Christ Church service in Sydney, stands by his view in posts that remain visible and would rather accept the end of his career than issue a retraction.

The 30-year-old said on his Instagram and Twitter accounts last week that "hell awaits" for "drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters".

Hastings, the former Scotland and Lions centre, whose son Corey is gay, tweeted his disapproval of England worldwide Billy Vunipola's support for Folau's comments on Saturday from Singapore where he was commentating on the world sevens series event. "But my faith in Jesus Christ is what comes first", he told the publication.

Sudan protesters block attempt to break up sit
In some videos the protesters chant "Revolution", as well as slogans against al-Bashir's Islamist supporters. The RSF was on Monday accused by protesters present at the sit-in of attempting to break up the sit-in.

Cheika spoke to reporters Monday for the first time since Folau, a devout Christian, posted on Instagram that gay people would go to hell unless they repented.

Folau said the furor that emerged about his social media posts has not made him budge. "He's saying how we live our lives needs to be closer to how God intended them to be".

At Saracens, we are one family, open to all with the firm view that everyone should be treated equally with respect and humility.

He obviously has his beliefs too and was honest enough to say that he has been "at least everything on that list at least at one point in my life" but his intervention was ill-advised.

Vunipola has been formally warned about his future conduct by Saracens after the England No 8, who is also of Tongan heritage, defended Folau.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but when you are saying that homosexuals will go to hell unless they repent that's bordering on religious extremism really and, as well as it having no place in rugby, you can't be preaching that when you're in his position.

"I'm disappointed in the fact that we're here again, second year running, that we're fronting up around an issue that on a large extent we'd settled and the impact that it has on the team", he said. The 73-times capped Wallaby full-back had his contract with the Rugby Australia and New South Wales Waratahs ended after being warned following similar comments past year.

"That's the message that I'm trying to share, even though it comes across as harsh".
