Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke announces 2020 presidential run

Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke announces 2020 presidential run

I tell O'Rourke that perhaps he's simply too normal to be president.

For some, the enthusiasm the three-term congressman generated may have seemed reminiscent of another politician who had only spent a few years in Congress before running for the White House - President Barack Obama.

"I'm really proud of what El Paso did and what El Paso represents", O'Rourke said in the text.

O'Rourke has some stiff competition, with Sen.

"But unlike Trump, O'Rourke can appear nearly too innocent to be a politician-too decent, too wholesome, the very reason he became popular also the same reason he could be crucified on the national stage".

However, O'Rourke didn't expand on the issue in his response to Trump's critique.

The 5-foot-9, 200-pound receiver has played four National Football League seasons, missing the 2016 season due to injury. Detroit Lions wide receiver Bruce Ellington during the game against the Carolina Panthers at Ford Field.

O'Rourke joins a widening field of Democrats who have announced exploratory committees including Cory Booker, Jay Inslee, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, former U.S. Rep John Delaney, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, John Hickenlooper, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Bill Weld, Marianne Williamson, and entrepreneur Andrew Yang. In an interview with MSNBC last month, he said he would support taking down an existing border wall in El Paso.

The news came hours after O'Rourke's Vanity Fair magazine cover was revealed with the caption: "His road to 2020 begins".

"I want to be in it", O'Rourke said. "Man, I'm just born to be in it". "That's part of the problem, and I'm a white man".

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office Thursday, Trump says of the Texas congressman: "Well, I think he's got a lot of hand movement".

Also teasing at a 2020 presidential campaign is former Vice President Joe Biden, who met with former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Thursday.

He continued: "But I totally understand people who will make a decision based on the fact that nearly every single one of our presidents has been a white man, and they want something different for this country".
