But despite Microsoft's restrictions, you can still use pretty much any browser to connect to Skype for Web, as long as you change the user agent to simulate one of the two mentioned above.

On Thursday, the new Skype for Web hit desktops everywhere but only if you're using a Windows 10 or Mac OSX10.12 device with the latest versions of Chrome and Edge.

In terms of what non-Chrome or Edge browser users are missing out on, the new version of Skype for Web has introduced a notifications panel that will feature notify you anytime another person mentions your name or quotes you.

Finally, there's also a new feature that lets users search within individual conversations.

Also, a new notification panel that shows users all the notifications in one place has been included.

Users can also find messages in the current conversation by typing in the word or phrase that they want to look for in the search box. Users on Chrome and Microsoft Edge can access Skype for Web here. A separate chat media gallery was also added, to store all files, links, and photos shared for easy discovery of content, from all conversations.

Whether recently released features for the desktop version of Skype will also eventually come to the web app remains uncertain.
