Infiniti Gives up on Western Europe, Will Leave in Early 2020

Infiniti Gives up on Western Europe, Will Leave in Early 2020

Japanese carmaker Nissan announced on Tuesday that it would be halting the production of its luxury Infiniti brand at its Sunderland plant by July, putting 200 jobs at risk.

In December previous year an Infiniti spokesman told Autocar that there are no plans for it to exit the UK. Just 170 of the pair were sold in Australia a year ago, with the marque notching up just 649 sales in total.

"The company will place more focus on its SUV lineup in North America, bring five new vehicles to China over the next five years, work to improve quality of sales and residual value, and realize more synergies with Nissan Motor Company", the statement said. Like all other auto makers Infiniti will have to invest heavily in electrification in order to reduce its fleet emissions, which are mandated at an average of 95g/km of Carbon dioxide in Europe from next year.

Around 250 employees at the Sunderland vehicle factory are dedicated to Infiniti production.

Arsenal end Solskjaer run with 2-0 win over Man United
But Arsenal's 2-0 defeat of Solskjaer's United at the Emirates Stadium saw Emery give a timely reminder of his credentials and answer more than a few questions. "The performance was good but the result was disappointing".

The company says the plant management "will discuss any impact on the plant with employees and their representatives".

Infiniti plans to divert its resources to markets with bigger opportunities from a region where non-European premium brands are struggling to compete against local players such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Steve Bush, a national officer of the union Unite said: "This decision, which is driven by poor sales, is obviously sad news". Infiniti intends on electrifying its portfolio by 2021, which might not be fast enough for Europe's liking. Unite is confident however that workers on the Infiniti Q30 production line who want to stay with Nissan can be redeployed within the Sunderland plant onto other models.

Infiniti Motor Co, the luxury division of Japanese automaker Nissan, says it's withdrawing from western Europe - offering another blow to carmakers in the United Kingdom bracing for Britain's departure from the European Union.
