Felicity Huffman Released from Custody on $250K Bond Amid College Admissions Scam

Lori Loughlin appeared in federal court in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, facing a charge of mail fraud in connection with the widespread college admissions bribery scheme.

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin are among some 50 people charged in the massive scam to cheat on admission to elite USA universities that involved bribes, fraudulent test scores and even fake photographs. He is also a former CFL player.

Dressed in a blue fleece paired with black trousers, Huffman appeared downcast as she waited by an elevator in the building with what appeared to be two federal agents.

Sidoo, 59, was a 2016 recipient of the Order of B.C.

Loughlin and her husband allegedly payed a $500,000 bribe to have their two daughters, the elder of whom is a YouTube star and social media influencer, labeled as rowers to get into the University of Southern California.

The scandal also ensnared movers and shakers in the corporate world. Macy paid $250,000 to have her released. Shares of the hedge fund plunged 9 percent.

Riddell didn't return several phone calls seeking comment.

Mr Meredith, who accepted a $400,000 bribe from Mr Singer, is due to plead guilty, prosecutors said.

The largest college admissions fraud scam unearthed in United States history was run out of a small college preparation company in Newport Beach, California, that relied on bribes, phoney test takers and even doctored photos depicting non-athletic applicants as elite competitors to land college slots for the offspring of rich parents, prosecutors said.

Some parents spent hundreds of thousands of USA dollars and some as much as US$6.5 million to guarantee their children's admission, officials said.

"These parents are a catalogue of wealth and privilege", US Attorney Andrew Lelling said.

Building Collapses in Lagos, Pupils Trapped in Rubble
In Lagos that same year, a five-story building still under construction collapsed, killing at least 30 people. Reuters reported that about 100 pupils attended the school, which was on the third floor of the building.

At least nine athletic coaches and 33 parents were charged.

More than four dozen people were charged for their involvement Tuesday including numerous college coaches and more prominently actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.

Huffman did get some support Tuesday from playwright and longtime friend David Mamet. The judge specified that she would be allowed to speak to her daughters and husband about the charges, but to no one else connected with the case. Macy was not charged; authorities did not say why.

Loughlin became famous as the wholesome Aunt Becky in the 1980s and '90s sitcom "Full House".

A Hallmark Channel spokeswoman said the network hasn't decided what effect, if any, her arrest will have on programming.

Three other cooperating witnesses, including a former head coach of women's soccer at Yale, have agreed to plead guilty, prosecutors said.

In many cases, the students were not aware their parents had arranged for the cheating, prosecutors said, although in other cases they knowingly took part.

All students involved in the college admission scandal should be removed from the institutions they fraudulently gained admissions to and their parents should serve jail time, according to Campus Reform's Lawrence Jones.

Loughlin, of Full House fame, and Huffman, whose credits include the hit ABC show Desperate Housewives, are charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud.

Lelling said the investigation is continuing and authorities believe other parents were involved. The IRS is also investigating, since some parents allegedly disguised the bribes as charitable donations.

Prosecutors said it was up to the universities to decide what to do with students admitted through cheating. Stanford fired the sailing coach, and USC dropped its water polo coach and an athletic administrator. A number of the institutions moved quickly to fire or suspend the coaches and distance their name from the scandal, portraying themselves as victims.
