The Thunder waive Alex Abrines; here's why, and what's next

The Oklahoma City Thunder have released Alex Abrines.

Abrines will be a free agent this summer, but it is unclear if he will remain in the United States or opt to return to his native Spain.

The Thunder guard has been waived so he can devote more time to a personal matter, according to the Oklahoman.

Abrines has appeared in only two games since December 23, sitting out because of personal reasons.

Music's top stars set for Grammys gala
While last year's show was held in NY - for the first time since 2003 - the 61st Grammys are back in Los Angeles. Ehrlich, in The Times interview, acknowledged that the Grammys "continue to have a problem in the hip-hop world".

The Thunder part ways with Abrines after the latter spent the three seasons on the team. "Honestly, we go day by day with him and continue to be supportive with him".

Abrines' release comes in the middle of a unusual 2018-19 season that saw him struggle through the first 29 games (career-low 32.3% 3P), then missed 17 consecutive games due to personal issues.

For his career, Abrines has appeared in 174 games, averaging 5.3 points and shooting 36.8 percent from 3. The Thunder could also pursue players on a series of 10-day contracts up to the 80th game of the season (April 7 at Minnesota) or up to 10 days before the final regular-season game.
