The Unicode Consortium, the non-profit organization that manages the world's emoji standards, announced the list of 59 new images this week, as well as 171 variants for gender and skin tone. According to Emojipedia, there are 230 new emoji in total.

Indeed, the "period emoji", as pointed out by the Daily Mirror, was reportedly spearheaded into subsistence by children and girls' watchdog Plan International U.K. as a way to end the stigma surrounding menstruation, a point echoed by Mashable.

Other icons include a waffle, a playful otter, a flamingo, a Hindu temple and a yawning face.

The emojis will start showing up on phones in September but some platforms might start releasing them earlier.

A "period emoji" will be included in the upcoming release of new smartphone images, after almost 55,000 people weighed in to support a campaign aimed at destigmatizing menstruation.

The new emoji for 2019 have been revealed, thanks to the folks at Unicode and Emojipedia.

A United Kingdom based organization which fights for women's rights was campaigning for the last few years for a period emoji to be added to keyboards so that the stigma around periods could be reduced. In the video below, you can see majority.

Another interesting new emoji added is a red drop of liquid which many have branded the "monthly periods blood emoji".

On Unicode's list of emoji to be released as part of the 12.0 keyboard, the symbol is described as a "drop of blood".

You've got to admire all the plucky people who are trying to play this off like "Look, I'm squishing your head!" but even the straights know what's up.

She added: 'An emoji isn't going to solve this, but it can help change the conversation. But for Plan International UK, it's been a "worthwhile challenge", as despite originating as a light-hearted campaign, the power of this universal language continue to increase. Up to now disability has been greatly under-represented'.

One Twitter user claimed "nobody" will use the new emoji to show pinching.

An emoji of a man or woman weaving a finger by one of their ears is meant to signal that they're deaf.
