Mazda celebrates 30 years of MX-5 with Anniversary Edition

There is a waiting list on Mazda's site that you can join in case someone backs out of their $500 refundable deposit.

The 30th Anniversary softtop starts at $35,915, with the hardtop RF carrying a $2600 premium at $38,515.

The year 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the brilliant Mazda MX-5 Miata sports vehicle, and Mazda is celebrating with the reveal of a zesty special edition at the Chicago auto show.

On top of the exclusive cosmetic goodies, Mazda will throw in Recaro seats, Bilstein dampers for manual transmission examples, a nine-speaker Bose stereo, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The legendary, oh-so-loveable MX-5 has now turned 30. Later on, Mazda realised the Miata name still had brand resonance, so the company compromised and it became the MX-5 Miata in North America, a name it carries to this day. As an added bonus, the wheels are also a nod to the Global MX-5 Cup Car. GT models replace 16-inch.

The political high ground will take a back seat for now, and many Democrats just want to avoid talking about the Old Dominion. Aides to Scott maintain that he was not made aware at that point about an alleged sexual assault in 2004 involving Fairfax.

Inside, the exclusivity continues with orange accents on the seats, door trim, dashboard, steering wheel, air vents and gear lever.

Speaking of wheels, the 30th Anniversary Edition also gets forged Rays ZE40 RS30 aluminum wheels that were apparently developed exclusively for this auto. The only available option is a six-speed automatic transmission, replacing the six-speed manual, and adds $500 the roadster's price, or $400 to the RF. Like every other US-spec Miata, our 30th Anniversary Edition will be powered by a 2.0-liter I4 engine, producing 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.

After 30 years and more than 1 million units sold, Mazda feels that the MX-5 has grown into more than simply Mazda's creation.

Of course, if you want one, you'd better act fast.

Each auto will be individually numbered, and reservation holders will be able to select their number out of 3,000, unless it's already taken.
