Google job listing hints the company is planning a big wearables expansion

As Android Police first reported, Google this week posted a job listing on its Careers site seeking a "Vice President of Hardware Engineering for Wearables", fueling speculation that it's building a Pixel smartwatch.

Right now, Google only has one wearable product with its own branding, that being the Google Pixel Buds, so it may be the company is looking to expand that line or it may be planning more Google Daydream VR related products too.

The postings are quite clear in regards to the importance of Google's wearable projects as they directly state the two future hires in question are meant to be on close working terms with the hardware unit's senior leadership as they come up with ways to create new and improve existing products. This job position and the recent acquisition of technology from Fossil are both solid evidence that Google is interested in producing a self-branded wearable.

Stop snitching on our checkpoints!
According to the New York Times , Waze does not allow drivers to specifically identify sobriety checkpoints. As a result, Waze users can, in many cases, avoid getting caught driving while drunk or high.

There are now zero Google wearable products on the market.

Early past year, Google rebranded Android Wear into Wear OS in order to make the ecosystem more inclusive, i.e. stop communicating suggestions that its solution may not work with iOS-powered iPhones.

To recap, Fossil - the leading Wear OS device manufacturer - announced the sale of its secret smartwatch tech to Google, which also acquired part of Fossil's R&D team as part of the deal. Maybe. Some commentators, in response to this news, have speculated that the wearable industry at this point may have left Google behind and ain't coming back. Back in the middle of past year, Google said a Pixel Watch wasn't imminent, but maybe that's changing, especially when you consider the Fossil news from just a few weeks ago. Another Wearables-focused job listing seeks a "Wearables Design Manager" that would be responsible for designing a good-looking wearable.
