Danai Gurira Reportedly Exiting 'The Walking Dead' In Season 10

Gurira will also star as Michonne in the three Walking Dead movies that AMC has planned for the Rick Grimes character.

Danai Gurira, who shot to fame in 2012 when she joined the cast as the katana-wielding Michonne, is believed to have signed a deal for her last season on the show. She will appear in a handful of episodes before exiting the series and segueing into The Walking Dead movies starring Andrew Lincoln.

This is largely as a result of the success of Marvel film Black Panther, where Danai played Dora Milaje general Okoye. It was probably only a matter of time before she left to focus on her own projects, which include writing and producing an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's hit novel Americanah into a limited series that will reunite her with Eclipsed star Lupita Nyong'o.

Considering Michonne became largely the show's central character in the wake of Rick's departure, and as a major player in the original comics, it'll be a massive challenge for the show to continues beyond season 10.
