Theresa May faces confidence vote in her Government soon, Jeremy Corbyn warns

MPs are scheduled to vote on accepting the deal May negotiated with the European Union in the House of Commons on Tuesday.

Former prime minister Sir John Major has said the United Kingdom must revoke Article 50 and cancel Brexit to avoid no-deal because "jumping off a cliff never has a happy ending".

A special leaders' summit to push back Brexit day is expected to be convened by the European council president, Donald Tusk, once a United Kingdom request is received.

Danielle Haralambous, a United Kingdom analyst at the EIU, said: "Time is simply running out, and we're at a stage where Brexit can probably only happen in late March now in the unlikely event that parliament approves Mrs May's deal on 15 January, or if parliament supports leaving without a deal".

More than 90 Conservative MPs said in December they would vote against Mrs May's deal.

"If the UK is a genuine partnership of nations it is essential that the views of the people of Scotland, the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government are taken seriously, and not ignored, when the vote on the UK Government's deal takes place on Tuesday".

Meanwhile, Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay told the BBC's Andrew Marr show: "There are lots of different plans being put forward by Members of Parliament that don't respect the result (of the referendum) or risk no deal".

While in the second they voted for the government to come back to the Commons with a plan B for Brexit within three days should it lose Tuesday's vote.

The Sunday Times reported a group of senior cross-party backbench rebels are now plotting to change House of Commons rules to enable them to override government business if the deal falls.

She continued: "When you turned out to vote in the referendum, you did so because you wanted your voice to be heard".

The European commission will publish a letter on Monday giving fresh assurances on the temporary status of the Irish backstop in a hope to win over some MPs to the deal but EU officials are downplaying expectations.

Jeremy Corbyn has set his sights on taking over Brexit negotiations, confirming he will call a no confidence vote to trigger a general election "soon" if Theresa May's current deal is rejected in parliament.

Mr Hunt warned: "If we were, as a political class, not to deliver Brexit, that would be a fundamental breach of trust between the people and the politicians".

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned on Thursday that the world did not want to see a disorderly Brexit and that he fully supported May's withdrawal deal.

Mrs May faced further opposition to her deal from her former Brexit secretary Dominic Raab.

Fitzpatrick, whose London constituency strongly backed remain, said "time is running out" and a so-called "people's vote" on the deal was "code for reversing original decision".
