Podcast: Miami finds its offensive, defensive coordinators

It's time for a new episode of the Eye on the U. David Wilson and Miami beat writer Susan Miller Degnan discuss what Enos can bring to the team and - more importantly - the quarterback room in Coral Gables.

The Miami Hurricanes have hired Alabama quarterbacks coach Dan Enos as their new offensive coordinator, the school announced Friday.

Before getting into coaching, Enos was the starting quarterback at Michigan State for two seasons.

Alabama quarterbacks coach Dan Enos was rumored to be the front-runner to take over the Crimson Tide offense in the wake of Mike Locksley's departure to take the Maryland job. However, in that one season, the Tide set all kinds of offensive records behind wunderkind quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, a dominant offensive line and a nasty group of receivers and running backs.

All eyes now turn toward Alabama backup quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is expected to transfer and has already been linked to Miami through social media. "Dan is one of the most innovative play-callers in college football. His experience as a head coach will also provide invaluable insight to our entire program".

It took several days to get all the logistics worked out, but Diaz had known since long before Alabama's appearance in the College Football Playoff title game earlier this week that Enos was probably going to be his pick.

Why Patriots should be concerned about Chargers for divisional round
Good luck today, Philip Rivers and Co. "I'm just happy I'm still able to play this game". "We've got a heck of a challenge". Since coming back from a torn ACL last year and a four-game suspension to open the year, Edelman was very productive.

"I couldn't be more excited to join a program as rich in tradition as the University of Miami". This was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

Enos was one of the driving forces behind an Alabama offense that set the program record for total offense (522 yards per game) and scoring offense (45.6 points per game) in 2018.

"I also want to express my honest appreciation to Nick Saban and the Alabama program for giving me the opportunity to coach there this past season".

The end result was landing Manny Diaz as the team's head coach - a move that paid off in recruiting. He was the Head Coach at Central Michigan from 2010-14.

Hurts is a dual threw quarterback who also ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns in 2018. "I learned so much during my time there and I will always be grateful".

UM's announcement of its OC came less than two weeks after Diaz fired Miami's entire offensive coaching staff. Diaz was hired to replace retiring UM coach Mark Richt on December 30. A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Enos and his wife Jane have to children, Lia and Alex.
