Michigan Hires Alabama's Josh Gattis As Its Offensive Coordinator

MI has reportedly found its offensive coordinator. Pep Hamilton, listed as an assistant head coach and passing-game coordinator, played a big role in the Wolverines' offense and is still a member of the coaching staff. Gattis fills a vacancy left by Jim McElwain, who took the head-coaching job at Central Michigan after one year with the program.

As first reported by The Athletic's Bruce Feldman, Michigan has hired Alabama's Josh Gattis to serve as the Wolverines' new offensive coordinator.

Moments ago, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman and Chris Vannini reported that Gattis will instead take the same spot at MI.

Gattis was only at Alabama for a season and has significant familiarity with the Big Ten and the Big Ten East. Gattis spent one season with the Crimson Tide after spending four seasons on James Franklin's staff at Penn State.

In a statement released by Michigan Thursday afternoon, Harbaugh said, "The offense and passing games under Josh's direction have achieved at a very high level throughout his coaching career".

Gattis coached wide receivers at Western Michigan in 2011, helping Jordan White become an All-American.

Yankees reportedly have not made formal offer to Manny Machado
Rumors have also begun circulating about a potential fourth "mystery team" interested in Machado. The Manny Machado sweepstakes are nearing its official conclusion.

Alabama, like MI, was long known for a run-heavy offense but recently evolved to a more modern approach with quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa.

MI finished 50th in total offense and 21st in scoring offense this season. And that's not counting Steve Sarkisian, who was the Tide's offensive coordinator for the 2017 national championship game before moving to be the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Brian Daboll was the team's offensive coordinator in 2017 and he's now the OC for the Buffalo Bills.

MI did not have a coach with the title of offensive coordinator on staff last season. Alabama ranked No. 3 in scoring offense (45.6 points per game) and No. 6 in total offense (522 yards per game).

The Michigan offense bookended the season with poor performances, however.

Michigan's offense has been criticized over the last couple of months due to blowout losses at Ohio State and against Florida in the Peach Bowl.
