Michael Cohen To Testify Publicly In Front Of House Oversight Next Month

The hearing marks the latest step in Cohen's transformation from a trusted legal adviser to the president to a public antagonist who has cooperated extensively against him.

President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer and "fixer" - who also pleaded guilty to financial crimes, campaign finance violations and lying to Congress - is set to testify before the House Committee of Oversight and Reform on February 7.

A federal judge last month sentenced Cohen to three years in prison, following a dramatic hearing at which Cohen said he felt it was his duty to cover up Trump's "dirty deeds".

Cohen said in a statement: "I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired".

Cohen said Trump directed him to make the payments because of concern about how they might affect the election campaign, adding that, "nothing at the Trump Organization was ever done unless it was run through Mr. Trump".

At the time of Cohen's sentencing, federal authorities announced a deal not to prosecute American Media Inc.

In a press release, Cummings said, "I thank Michael Cohen for agreeing to testify before the Oversight Committee voluntarily". He said he's speaking with Mueller's office to prevent that.

Cohen once said he would take a bullet for Trump, who called his former close confidante a "Rat" on Twitter in mid-December.

It's unclear whether Cohen's testimony contains evidence that could lead to the impeachment of the USA president, but given the fact that Trump's casually-tweeted comments (such as criticisms of the Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell) have been correlated with major turbulence in the stock markets, the last thing the economy needs at the moment is another wild card.

Timberwolves fire coach Tom Thibodeau
Thibodeau entered the season on the hot seat, which is why he was desperately trying to keep Jimmy Butler rather than trade him. He registered a 97-107 record in two-plus seasons with the Timberwolves and led them to a playoff berth in 2017-18.

He also denied that Trump had committed impeachment offenses of high crimes or misdemeanors.

"COHEN asked Individual 1 about the possibility of Individual 1 traveling to Russian Federation in connection with the Moscow Project, and asked a senior campaign official about potential business travel to Russian Federation", the documents said.

The president, "knows the truth", Cohen said.

The House Intelligence Committee has been seeking a closed-door session with Cohen to discuss Russia-related matters.

Individual 1 was a reference to Trump.

Cohen, Mr Trump's self-described longtime "fixer", pleaded guilty to charges including tax evasion, bank fraud and campaign finance violations in August and admitted to making false statements to Congress in November. Specifically, he misled Congress on the work being done on a Trump Tower project in Moscow - work that continued well into 2016, even though Cohen, Trump and others had previously claimed the project was abandoned much earlier.

The special counsel's questioning of Cohen, one of the president's closest associates over the past decade, has since focused primarily on all aspects of Trump's dealings with Russian Federation - business and otherwise - sources familiar with the matter told ABC News, as well as whether Trump or any of his associates discussed with Cohen the possibility of a pardon.

"We hope to schedule a closed session before our committee in the near future", Schiff said.
