Latest Pharmacy News: NHS Long Term Plan envisages 'essential role' for pharmacists

"The green paper and the NHS long term plan should have been developed in parallel".

The General Medical Council (GMC) suggested the United Kingdom should consider migrant workers in future workforce planning after a poll revealed many doctors were considering quitting the NHS or cutting their hours because they felt stressed or overburdened.

This additional funding is earmarked for increased digitalisation of GP practices, 24-hour mental health support, healthy living programmes, cancer testing centres and other services.

When even after the perils of war, infant mortality was almost 10 times now, when two-thirds of men smoked and life expectancy was just 66. But one constant has been that core principle set out by the national government - that the NHS should be available to all, free at the point of use, according to need, not ability to pay.

We all have an emotional connection to it, our own family story, and we all owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the people who make the NHS what it is, and work so hard, especially during the winter months when the pressures are greatest.

"The NHS in England is already short of more than 40,000 nurses and the figure is rising".

Observers would be hard-pressed to argue with the aims - most people have experienced first hand the frustrations of a practitioner that can't access certain records and the NHS's much-hyped reliance on fax machines attests to the legacy kit still in use today. This is expected to remove the need for up to 30 million outpatient appointments per year.

At the heart of this plan is the principle that prevention is better than cure.

More support for people with long term conditions through mobile monitoring devices and the interoperability of data.

That means patients will have improved access to their Global Positioning System and greater flexibility about how they contact them.

An entire chapter of a report, the Long-Term Plan, is dedicated to "digitally enabled care".

In his three games in a Cavs uniform, McCaw saw 53 minutes of action, averaging just 1.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists.

The 133-page document says NHS bosses have drawn up "a provisional list of potential legislative changes for parliament's consideration" following invitations to do so from May and MPs on the health and social care select committee. "Dame Donna Kinnair, acting chief executive and general secretary of the RCN, called on NHS England and the government to "urgently address" [these] chronic shortages to make the plan the success it deserves to be".

Staff will receive better training and more help with career progression.

The plan is due to provide mental health help to 345,000 more youngsters through the expansion of "community based services", including in schools. But I want to see it happen evrywhere. "For all those people who are severely affected by mental illness we now have the prospect of getting access to good quality treatment, quickly, near home for the first time", he said.

The 10-year plan follows thousands of conversations with clinicians, patients and the public to ensure we focus on the priorities that matter to all of us.

Mr Speaker, that is the approach we will be taking to support the NHS over the next decade, but what does it mean for patients and the wider public?

In five years, at least £2.3bn a year will be ring-fenced with a view to expanding mental health services to offer adults, young people and children faster access to community and crisis mental health services.

And we will expand services for young people to include people up to the age of 25.

The plan has been applauded by mental health charities - Mark Winstanley, chief executive of Rethink Mental Illness, said he's delighted that mental health is being prioritised.

It's also about early diagnosis and better detection, treatment and recovery so we can ensure better outcomes. It is vital we have the right staff in the right places to provide care, and they need the right facilities to do so.

Commenting on the publication of the plan, AOP chief executive, Henrietta Alderman, said the long-term plan set the right direction of travel for the NHS by recognising the importance of community and primary care in reducing health inequalities. Funded by taxpayers, designed by doctors, delivered by this government.

And I am proud to commend this statement to the House.
