Google is Killing Chromecast Audio for Some Reason

Google is Killing Chromecast Audio for Some Reason

Google just discontinued one of its best and most underrated products, the Chromecast Audio.

Another day, another dead Google product.

Ah, Chromecast Audio: the peculiar cousin to the vastly-popular Google Chromecast that never really managed to find a solid footing in the market.

Because manufacturing has ended and Google has sold out of its stock, customers will no longer be able to get the Chromecast Audio through Google itself. Instead of the HDMI connector that the regular Chromecast used, the Chromecast Audio opted for a combined 3.5mm audio jack and mini-TOSLINK socket. But the company's retail partners often ran discounts and deals on the product, and in the USA the device sold for as low as $15 in the last few weeks.

The Model X , meanwhile, starts at $72,950 with a range of 237 miles, a top speed of 130 mph and a sprint to 60 in 4.9 seconds. Tesla's move to break ground on the factory comes amid the backdrop of an ongoing trade war between Washington and Beijing.

Over Black Friday weekend, Google dropped the price of the Chromecast Audio to $15, while noting that the price drop would be good through the end of February. It seems stocks of the gadget are rapidly diminishing: Like the Google Store, Staples is also listing the dongle as out of stock, although Newegg is still offering it through a third-party seller for US$29 at the time of writing.

The company's support representatives are telling people that Google has "a variety of products for users to enjoy audio" and therefore have made a decision to stop "manufacturing our Chromecast Audio products".

"We will continue to offer assistance for Chromecast Audio devices, so users can continue to enjoy their music, podcasts and more". If the TV is hooked up to a proper sound system, though, the experience is more or less the same.
