Former Sheriff Scott Israel vows to fight 'unjustified' suspension from office

The Florida sheriff whose office responded to the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland will be suspended by the state's new governor Friday, a source familiar with the process told CNN.

Almost one year after the tragic Parkland massacre, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was officially dismissed from his job on Friday.

Sheriff Israel has repeatedly failed and has demonstrated a pattern of poor leadership. - Gov. Ron DeSantis asked for their resignations, but some South Florida Water Management District board members are declining to step down.

"He failed in his duties to keep our families and children safe during the devastating shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14,2018", according to a statement by DeSantis.

Israel countered that other mass shootings did not result in the suspension of top law enforcement officials, including the bloodbath in 2016 in Orlando at the Pulse nightclub.

Yesterday the Governor made clear that he does what he says: he has a bold vision to fix Florida's environment and improve our water quality.

Under Florida law, he is entitled to a hearing in the Florida Senate, which can decide to reinstate the sheriff or remove him from office.

"The Members of the House of Representatives are thankful that the Governor's plane landed safely after reporting mechanical difficulties", said Oliva, R-Miami.

A report issued by the panel investigating the response found that several BSO deputies failed to run into the building to try to stop the gunman - or were slow and inadequately trained to confront the killer and stop him.

"There certainly were mistakes made, " Kaplan said.

During the more than 11 hours of questioning by Broward sheriff's Detective John Curcio, Cruz cursed at himself when the officer left the room and said he deserved to die. These incidents demonstrate Sheriff's Israel's repeated incompetence and neglect of duty.

Nikolas Cruz has confessed to carrying out the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, his former school, according to court documents. Rick Scott, refused to suspend Israel, saying he wanted to wait until investigations were completed.

Sheriff Israel inserted the word "may" in the BSO policy, and it is insufficient and fails to unequivocally convey the expectation that deputies are expected to immediately enter an active assailant scene where gunfire is active and to neutralize the threat.

"One more second and she makes it", Guttenberg said.

He was joined on Friday by some parents of slain students at the high school who supported his move.

According to Florida statute, the governor has the power to suspend the sheriff for actions such as "misfeasance" and "neglect of duty" and may fill the office by appointment for the period of suspension.

Israel, a Democrat, has served as the elected sheriff of the agency with 5,800 employees since 2013.
