Months after TRAI threat, Apple allows DND app on App Store

The Cupertino-based iPhone maker Apple has finally relented and has begun hosting the Indian telecom regulator's Do-Not-Disturb app, at the centre of a dispute between the two over privacy concerns. In July, TRAI issued a directive to Indian telecom companies telling them that phones that did not support TRAI-DND app would have to be barred from the telecom networks in India.

In July this year, TRAI released regulations that would've required telcos to "derecognise" devices that didn't permit functioning of a mobile app developed by the regulator (or an entity approved by the regulator) created to let consumers change their communication settings and also report entities that violate them.

Now, Apple has approved TRAI's DND app, which is available for download on the App Store as "TRAI DND - Do Not Disturb". This time, however, the purge was reportedly for violating company policy, rather than coming at the behest of China's government. But new features in iOS 12 allowed developers to specifically develop such types of apps that let users report pesky calls and text messages.

The First Tree launches today on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4
The study predicts that Nintendo will sell 17.3 million Switch consoles, whereas Sony is expected to sell 17.1 million. But some PS Vita fans may be wondering how likely the Sony patents will eventually turn into an actual product.

You can find a link to the free DND app below.

"Reports have suggested that the average person receives upwards of 10 unwanted calls and messages in a given day, which the app combats by letting users join a "do not disturb" registry and allowing them to report unwanted contacts". It sought access to a user's SMS and call logs and on this subject, Apple was very touchy because it believed that third-parties should not access such details.

Apple has removed hundreds of iPhone apps from its App Store in China, in the company's latest crackdown in one of its biggest markets.
