Mobile phone network down across the Isle of Wight

"While it's positive that voice calls are still up and running, without a projected timeframe for a fix, this is likely a worrying situation for a large proportion of O2's some 32 million United Kingdom customers".

Aside from being a huge inconvenience for data-hungry consumers, the O2 network outage is also causing issues for things such as public transportation and daily operations of local businesses.

Downdetector, a website that tracks digital outages, said 1,662 complaints had been made before 7am, with the outages affecting London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds and many other towns and cities.

Mobile network O2 and telecoms company Ericsson have issued a joint apology after millions of customers were unable to get online.

"Ericsson customers affected were using two specific software versions of the node "Serving GPRS Support Node - Mobility Management Entity" (SGSN-MME)".

An expired certificate was the cause of a data outage across O2 and SoftBank mobile services in the United Kingdom and Japan, respectively, Ericsson has revealed.

Serena confirmed for Australian Open
Serena Williams will return to the Australian Open in 2019 as she goes in search of a record-equalling 24th grand slam title. The tournament's leading sponsor is Kia, who is the main sponsor of the tournament from previous years too.

The mobile company has confirmed engineers are working to fix the issue.

In a tweet, the network said that the issue lay with one of its third-party suppliers, and recommended that users switch to Wi-Fi wherever possible.

"We have been working hard on resolving the United Kingdom data issue since early this morning".

"The faulty software that has caused these issues is being decommissioned".

One said: "My mobile network has been down all morning so far. Updates will be shared here as soon they are available". What is wrong with O2 mobile signal today? Ericsson said it has taken action to minimize impact and support the restoration of services.
