IPL 2019: Shreyas Iyer Set To Lead Delhi Capitals

Dousing all the speculations about the big announcement around Delhi Daredevils, the Delhi-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise has announced a brand makeover and has changed its name to Delhi Capitals. The new identity of the Delhi franchise was unveiled here on Tuesday.

In the last nine years, Delhi IPL team has not been able to make much mark in the tournament. However, there is already a team called "Delhi Capitals" that plays in the UBA (basketball).

"We wanted this name to mean something to each and everyone from Delhi", said Parth Jindal, the director at JSW Sports at the ceremony. Going by the tagline "A New Delhi Rises", the event was broadcast live on its official Instagram and Facebook pages too. Ahead of the 2019 IPL auctions, the Delhi Daredevils released their former captain Gautam Gambhir, whom they had bought at the IPL 2018 auctions, before naming him as the captain.

Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez announces retirement from Test cricket
Hafeez came back after a two-year gap in October, notching a brilliant 126 against Australia in Dubai but he has struggled since. I feel honoured that I represented the country in 55 Test matches including the opportunity of captaining the team.

The support staff of Delhi Capitals, to be led by Shreyas Iyer, would comprise of Ricky Ponting (head coach), Mohammad Kaif (assistant coach), James Hopes (bowling coach). They also released Gautam Gambhir, Mohammed Shami and Glenn Maxwell among others and go into the auction on December 18 in Jaipur with a purse of Rs. 25.50 crore. Whereas, getting Team India stalwart - Shikhar Dhawan back in the team in lieu of three cricketers from SunRisers Hyderabad is also another move which raised quite a few eyebrows.

Coming to the core squad, they have retained Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Chris Morris and also the Nepal Spinner. They finished at the bottom of the table in IPL 2018.
