Instagram now lets you choose who can - and can’t - see your Stories

Instagram has launched a new feature dubbed "Close Friends" that lets users share their stories with a smaller group of people. Also, you'll see a green badge when you're viewing other people's Stories that are restricted to Close Friends.

Regular posts would still appear to everyone, though users have the option of pre-approving followers. In any case, it's a new way to identify your inner circle, while also seeing how close - or not - others feel to you.

"Instagram Stories has become the place to express yourself and share everyday moments, but our community has grown and sometimes what you want to share isn't for everyone". Note that you can only create one close friends group. While this feature looks really useful for the common user, don't be surprised if you see some Instagram model offering "Close friends" memberships for a little something in return. "You can share things that are maybe a bit less polished, less ideal, [and] daily moments from your life", said Debra Aho Williamson, principal analyst at eMarketer who covers social media marketing.

Kris Jenner also made an appearance in the " Mean Girls " part of the vid. playing Amy Poehler 's " cool mom " character. And it was... it was really big", perhaps in reference to a certain type of " big energy " that Davidson reportedly has.

Robby Stein, product director at Instagram, said the feature took more than a year to complete. Your Close Friends will see a green ring, rather than the usual purple, around your story.

The new feature is rolling out worldwide today in a new version of Instagram for iOS and Android.

Rival Snap Inc owner of Snapchat, which faces stiff competition from Instagram has been redesigning the app to lure more users and advertisers. It was inspired by user-based "Finstagrams", or fake Instagram accounts. On the upside, though, you might be able to finally ditch that finsta account.
