Prophet Walter Magaya retracts claim that he found cure for HIV

Prophet Healing and Deliverance Leader Walter Magaya has apologised to the Ministry of Health and Child Care for by passing procedure in announcing his cure for cancer and HIV through the Aguma herb.

The Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) yesterday threatened to slap the PHD founder with a lawsuit within seven days because his HIV/Aids treatment claim is risky and leaves patients prone to infection.

He will be back in court November 26 pending trial.

Health experts say there is no cure yet.

Verifications were made through Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe on their records and it was established that Aguma is not a registered medicine or drug in Zimbabwe.

Aretha Medical, the company behind the production, marketing and sale of Aguma, was also not authorised to carry out any clinical tests on human beings to prove that Aguma can cure HIV.

PROPHET Walter Magaya and his workers flashed through the toilet system and further tried to burn containers of the preacher's HIV/Aids "cure" when they got wind of an impending police raid on his Malborough premises in Harare, a court heard on Friday. "I carry a very important apology to the ministry, to the public at large and all organisations".

"I can confirm that Magaya is assisting police with investigations in connection with enquiries the ZRP is now conducting", he said.

Magaya, who was released on $300 bail by magistrate Elisha Singano, was charged under Section 40 (1) also read with Section 40 (2a) of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act Chapter 15:03 for "distributing or in any other manner whatsoever bringing to the notice of the public or causing or permitting to be published or distributed or to be brought to the notice of the public any false or misleading advertisement of a medicine".

However, while speaking on the matter, Dr Alex Gasaira, WHO's representative in the country, explicitly stated that "there is no cure for HIV infection".

"We wrote to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and they said they would work hand-in-hand with government rather than individual-to-individual", Magaya said.

Gasasira said use of antiretroviral treatment, in line with national guidelines, has resulted in better health outcomes for people living with HIV and encouraged people to continue taking their medication.
