Speaking with newsmen, following closed-door meeting, the Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II said the Prince gave a brief summary of discussions held with President Muhammadu Buhari on a range of issues, from climate change to demographic explosion.

In Gambia, the Prince congratulated the West African nation on recently returning to the 53-member Commonwealth states of mostly former British territories.

"There is it seems to me, tremendous potential for the Commonwealth to share best practice and coordinate its response to these kind of disasters" Prince Charles said.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cornwall began the day at a Women of the World (WOW) event where she met Mr Chikodi Onyemerela, Director of Programmes and Partnerships at the British Council and Jude Kelly, the founder of WOW. So it is about strengthening ties, particularly people-to-people ties.

On Monday, Charles is scheduled to address young entrepreneurs.

Prince Charles says Britain also has a role to play to "robustly promote and defend the values which today make it incomprehensible for most of us that human beings could ever treat each other with such utter inhumanity" referring to the slave trade.
