Multiple DLC for ‘Final Fantasy XV’ Canceled After Director Departure

Square Enix also confirmed during the livestream that the team at Luminous Productions - which has been responsible for supporting Final Fantasy 15 throughout the years - is now working on a new project, and it seems likely that it'll focus its full efforts on whatever that game is once Ardyn's DLC releases in March 2019.

While Final Fantasy XV is Tabata's biggest project to date, he's been at Square Enix for over a decade, also serving as the director on Final Fantasy Type-0 and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

During Square Enix's worldwide Final Fantasy XV broadcast, they announced that the standalone Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades will launch on December 12 for PS4 and Xbox One.

So, for fans of Final Fantasy 15, this is likely disappointing news, but the silver lining is that some of the game's planned DLC is surviving this purge.

It's an unexpected turn of events made all the more surprising by the fact Tabata was only recently tasked with leading Square Enix's new Japanese studio, Luminous Productions. However, no further details were divulged on what this new title is. As of today, Episodes Aranea, Lunafreya, and Noctis have all been scrapped and will not see a release.

However, the band did not respond to Evans' assertion that he "knew for a fact that you've put some stadiums on hold". The group originally split in 2000 after performing for two years as a four piece without Geri.

Despite the cuts to Final Fantasy XV's planned releases, Square Enix isn't turning its back on the game. It's not all bad news, in other words.

This decision has resulted in the booking of an extraordinary loss amounting to 3,733 million yen, including the disposition of the portion of the content production account related to the game titles under development at the Subsidiary and impairment losses on intangible assets in the Company's financial results for the six-month period ended September 30, 2018.

Polygon said Tabata had "a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV". Tabata officially resigned from Luminous Productions and Square Enix on October 31st. "For that reason, I have chose to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal", he explained.

According to Square Enix, director Hajime Tabata is also no longer working with the company as of the end of October.
