Harvick earns NASCAR championship shot with Texas win

Kyle Busch and Martin Trueex Jr now hold the final two spots, but with Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott, Aric Almirola and Clint Bowyer hot on their tail the race at ISM Raceway in Phoenix could be very exciting.

Harvick and Joey Logano will make up half of the championship field in two weeks in Florida while the other two spots will be set next weekend in Arizona. "We don't count our fingers and our toes trying to figure out how to make it in. Today we earned our way in and we're going to race again next week and try to win another race and then see what we can do at Homestead", Harvick concluded. Green flag stops started on lap 276, with Harvick pitting four laps later and relinquishing first to Johnson. Harvick said that he thought if he could prevent him from concluding the corner, he could drive back by him. "It all worked out".

Truex now ranks third of six drivers (25 points above the cutline) with two races left before the finale. It'll be the fourth time in the last five years the 2014 series champion will go to Florida with a shot at the title.

The race victor and second driver to automatically advance to Homestead was Kevin Harvick.

Kyle Busch, a seven-time victor this year, and defending Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. are among the other six title contenders. Logano finished third a week after securing his playoff spot. The race resumed on lap 230 with Logano and Blaney on the front row, though Harvick eventually moved up to second.

Harvick was on the inside again for the next restart, before Blaney was able to get by him on the outside and into the lead. Choosing to take the higher lane, he pulled away from Blaney and was never seriously challenged for first place. Like I told you guys before the race, we don't race for points, we race for wins. "To start exactly where we were I think is a decent day".

Tony Stewart says it was known that NASCAR's Big 3 were likely going to advance to Homestead, leaving just one spot open for something else in the playoffs' Championship 4. "He motored around me".

He's also said that the students would be disciplined for their "hurtful, disrespectful and disappointing" actions. It occurred over the weekend when Brookwood High School in Snellville played rival Lakeside High in football.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Chase Elliott, Kurt Busch, Aric Almirola, Martin Truex Jr. and Austin Dillon. He also dealt with a loose tire and had a pass-through penalty during the race for driving through too many pit boxes, and was a lap down before getting that back one the first of the late cautions. However, Harvick fought back to reclaim the lead on lap 317, and with the blessing of clean air began to separate himself from the pack. "Happy about that for sure", he said. "Obviously Blaney had a good restart and we're not taking the bottom anymore. The only difference is there's one less spot available".

Truex has vowed that Logano won't win the Cup title after what happened at Martinsville. Behind him were Blaney, Truex, Keselowski, Logano, Almirola, Jones, Kurt Busch, Suárez, and Elliott.

Logano said they were still racing at the end in a tight turn.

Jimmie Johnson was sent to the rear of the field after the No. 48 Chevrolet twice failed prerace inspection.

NASCAR later said it erred in penalizing Johnson at the start of the race because his auto passed inspection the third time. Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus are making their 600th start together. "I don't know how they do it". However, a three-car incident involving Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher, and Matt Dibenedetto caused headache for more than just the latter who suffered major damage late in the race.

Kevin Harvick had a dominating day at the Texas Motor Speedway Sunday and won the Triple-A Texas 500.

Harvick now has eight victories in 2018, and 45 in his career.
