Rock and roll icon Elvis Presley has been posthumously honoured with the Presidential Medal Of Freedom.

President Donald Trump will award the Presidential Medial of Freedom, the nation's highest honor for a civilian, to seven people including the three prominent sports figures.

President Donald Trump has announced his first recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and they include the longest-serving Republican senator in USA history, Utah Sen.

Hatch was one of the more vocal supporters of Trump's second Supreme Court Justice appointment, Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault. A ceremony to award the medals has been scheduled for Friday.

The White House, in announcing Presley, noted that he "defined American culture to billions of adoring fans around the world". Also being honored: Orrin Hatch, who has represented Utah in the Senate for 41 years; Alan Page, a former professional football player who is a judge on the Minnesota Supreme Court; baseball legend Babe Ruth; Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia; and Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach. With her husband, Sheldon, she also established the Adelson Medical Research Foundation, which supports research to prevent, reduce, or eliminate disabling and life-threatening illness.

Trump did not name any Medal of Freedom winners in 2017. He also starred in 31 films, made numerous television appearances and played to record-breaking audiences at his concerts.

'His legacy has never been eclipsed, and he remains the personification of 'America's Pastime, ' the White House added.
