US imposes North Korea-related sanctions on Russian, Chinese firms

The Treasury Department said that it blacklisted Russia-based company Volasys Silver Star, China-based China Silver Star and its CEO Jong Song Hwa for violating USA sanctions.

A North Korean national, Song Hwa Jong, was also sanctioned, it said.

South Korea, a close US ally, said in February that it would procure new patrol aircraft to cope with the emerging threat of North Korean submarine-launched missiles. Sanctions were toughened last time on December 22 of the a year ago.

Asked about the sanctions, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said that China fully enforces United Nations resolutions on North Korea and resolutely opposes any country enacting unilateral sanctions on Chinese entities using "long-arm jurisdiction".

The Treasury Department said China Silver Star is linked to the North Korean ruling party's Munitions Industry Department, . which it says is responsible for overseeing the regime's ballistic missile program.

As reports Reuters, citing the U.S. Treasury, the sanctions imposed against Chinese companies Yanbian Silverstar Network Technology and the Russian Volasys Silver Star for his support of nuclear and missile programs of North Korea.

The reach of United States sanctions on North Korea has now extended to two more entities, one Russian and one Chinese firm, amid frustration from the Trump administration that Beijing and Moscow are relaxing their support for a pressure campaign to push Pyongyang to denuclearize.

Haley said Russian interference "sets an unacceptable precedent that damages the sanctity of the United Nations independent panel reporting process".

According to AccuWeather , the typhoon could also potentially reach the southern and eastern coasts of Taiwan. Historically, typhoons of this magnitude generate hundreds, sometimes thousands of deaths.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, one diplomat said the amended report removed some references to Russians accused of breaching North Korea sanctions. "Period", Haley said in a statement.

Russian Federation "obtained the removal of the main part of the paragraphs" concerning it, a diplomat said, speaking anonymously.

Haley has called for the original report to be released by the 15-member Security Council, which must agree by consensus on whether to publish the findings.

"The full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions remains mandatory for all member states - including Russian Federation".

The Russian news agency TASS quoted Russia's U.N. Mission as saying the proposed sanctions were "unjustified".

It also said Pyongyang continues to defy global sanctions through a "massive increase" in illicit ship-to-ship transfers of refined petroleum products.

White House officials have acknowledged that there has been no progress on denuclearization, even as President Donald Trump considers a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
