U.S.' Pompeo slams John Kerry for 'inappropriate' meetings with Iran officials

President Donald Trump took to his favorite platform tonight to warn former Secretary of State John Kerry that he may be violating the law by meeting with Iranian officials.

Trump's attack came after Kerry, who is promoting a new book, acknowledged to Fox News in an interview that he had met with Iranian officials after leaving office "a few times, two or three times".

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert added: "I've seen him brag about the meetings that he has had with the Iranian government and Iranian government officials". Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!

The Foreign Agents Registration Act requires agents representing the interests of foreign powers to disclose their relationships with global governments and their related activities and finances.

Kerry's meetings do not appear to violate FARA, but some have suggested they could be in violation of the Logan Act, which prohibits private citizens from negotiating on behalf of the USA government without authorization, though no one has ever been successfully prosecuted under the law.

In a Thursday night tweet, Trump took a different view, echoing criticism from conservative pundits from recent days.

Kerry's spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Pompeo's remarks.

Trump withdrew in May from the 2015 nuclear deal between the United States, Iran and five other world powers that gave Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.

Hurricane Florence Makes Landfall in North Carolina
This may be worse than what we've seen before", Assistant Fire Chief Joey Roberts said during a press conference Wednesday. FBN's Gerri Willis on the businesses that have closed down operations in North Carolina and SC due to Hurricane Florence.

Kerry himself told Hewitt that he was not coaching the Iranians on how to deal with the Trump administration.

"What I have done is tried to elicit from him what Iran might be willing to do in order to change the dynamic in the Middle East for the better", Kerry explained.

"I think everybody in the world is talking about waiting out President Trump", said Kerry, a former senator from MA who was the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee. "It's inconsistent with what foreign policy of the United States is as directed by this president, and it is beyond inappropriate for him to be engaged".

Trump, though, moved to scrap the deal, declaring the pact failed to halt the country's nuclear ambitions.

Trump blasted Kerry for his "possibly illegal Shadow Diplomacy" earlier this year.

Pompeo said he would leave "legal determinations to others" but slammed Kerry as a former secretary of state for engaging with "the world's largest state-sponsor of terror" and telling Iran to "wait out this administration". "We all do that".

He added that, "actively undermining U.S. policy as a former secretary of state is literally unheard of".
