The fight for Earth is on in new Bumblebee trailer

The worldwide trailer features several shots not seen in the domestic version, including more footage of other G1 era classic Transformers like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee battling Blitzwing, and shots of Cybertron.

As we've already seen from the teaser, the film is set in the 80s - with a sweeter, gentler Iron Giant vibe replacing Bay's usual bombast.

Bumblebee will arrive neatly wrapped in United Kingdom cinemas on Boxing Day this year - and stay tuned to Empire for a trailer breakdown from Travis Knight himself.

Bumblebee is directed by Travis Knight, who is best known for Laika animated features Kubo and the Two Strings and Coraline.

The film also stars actors John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Gracie Dzienny, Rachel Crow and Pamela Adlon. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. Because it's the very decade in which the Transformers franchise was first born. As evil forces converge on Bumblebee and Charlie, the yellow robot gets an important message from Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen): "in order to end this war, you must protect Earth and its people".

This trailer shows off more of the film, including a lot of Transformers action.

Watch the new Bumblebee trailer below. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug. It is set for release on December 21st 2018 in the States and December 26th in the UK.

One of the many criticisms about the Michael Bay Transformers films were that the designs of the Autobots and the Decepticons were too complicated for their own good.
