Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon splits NY voters

Cuomo, 60, was born into politics as the son of Mario Cuomo, a longtime public figure who also served as NY governor. Party Director Geoff Berman later said the mailer was a mistake, and Cuomo's spokeswoman acknowledged that two former aides volunteering on the campaign were behind the piece. The effects of the mailer on Nixon's campaign, or of the ensuing controversy on Cuomo's, are unclear. But she's invited to my next bbq/family gathering and if she's running for anything...

"He is an experienced man and she is totally inexperienced", said Cuomo voter Jack Buchanan, 87, on the Upper East Side. "He controls the state committee", Nixon said.

"To break through, that requires a lot of money and organization", he told AFP. Nixon, who has never held office, has said Cuomo's experience has not translated to good governance, Cuomo has said she is inexperienced and naive about the practicalities of NY politics. NY is the only state in the country which has separate election days for federal and statewide primaries.

In their only gubernatorial debate, Nixon cited the RAND Corporation's August report which analyzed the New York Health Act's passage (the act would start the move toward single-payer healthcare in New York).

"If he wins tomorrow, and if the margin is not as big as he wants, and if he doesn't get the lieutenant governor that he wants, he's not going to be a happy camper", Ms. Zaino said.

However, as outrage built over Cuomo's watery denial - his campaign pinned responsibility for the mailer on an anonymous "constituency outreach" volunteer - it emerged on Wednesday that the mailer was drafted by Cuomo's former special assistant David Lobl, now volunteering with his re-election campaign, and approved by Larry Schwartz, the governor's former secretary.

Cuomo has also battled with the state teacher's union after pushing for an evaluation system that was linked to student test scores during his first term.

Approved and paid for by the New York State Democratic Committee, the mailer accused Nixon of remaining "silent on the rise of anti-Semitism", and supporting BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), a worldwide movement to boycott Israeli goods and cultural exports.

Attorney general candidate Zephyr Teachout, who launched an unsuccessful primary bid against Cuomo in 2014, has been endorsed by Sen.

The victor of the primary will face Republican Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins and former Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner, an independent, in the November general election. He's spent millions on ads and tried to make the race about Republican President Donald Trump, arguing that he's the best qualified to govern and push back against the White House.
