Mets' David Wright set to play on Sept. 29

Wright will come off the disabled list on September 25, though he won't return to a regular role.

He will start that final Saturday (September 29) at third base against the Marlins.

Mets players were watching as Wright addressed the media.

During a press conference on Thursday, Wright announced that it will likely be the last series of his career. "To the fans: words can't express my gratitude and appreciation for always having my back".

That Sept. 29 start will mark the culmination of a rehab process for Wright that has spanned more than two years.

Wright, 35, underwent surgery in September 2017 to fix his right rotator cuff and then was back in the operating room a month later for a laminotomy procedure on his lower back.

Seattle takes 2-0 lead in WNBA Finals
When asked how it compared to the other two WNBA titles she's won, she said there's "no comparison honestly". Veteran Sue Bird became the Storm's all-time leading scorer, and the WNBA's all-time assists leader.

The 35-year-old, despite all the injuries, had himself a nice 13-year career. He hit.293/.332/.525 through 69 games as a rookie, and not once in his career did he deliver below-average offensive production, by measure of OPS+.

Spinal stenosis and other medical problems have sidelined Wright since the 2016 season.

Wright, who was named team captain in 2013, has been with the Mets through thick and thin - for better or for worse.

Some have suggested that the Mets' inclination was financially-motivated in that, as long as Wright is on the disabled list, insurance will cover much of his salary. As is typical for the Mets there has been confusion as to what the actual plan was, with Wright strongly suggesting he was ready to play while the Mets seemed inclined to hold him back.

"To my teammates, coaches and staff, it's truly been an honor of a lifetime to take the field with you and serve as your captain", Wright said.
