Gareth Southgate gives warning over 'game time'

Rashford scored both goals in England's two games during the worldwide break - the opener against Spain in the 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat and the victor in the 1-0 victory over Switzerland.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is reportedly determined to stay and fight for his place at the club despite a recent lack of first-team football.

At United, Rashford has Romelu Lukaku in his way at centre-forward and Alexis Sanchez occupying the left flank.

Incidentally, he has now played more minutes for England this season in two matches than he has for United in four.

And Jamie Carragher believes a move for Rashford would be ideal.

Gareth Southgate has warned his England players that it will be hard to pick them for next month's Nations League games in Croatia and Spain if they are not playing regularly for their clubs.

"Jose thinks the world of Marcus", he said.

"Everything he's got - he's got pace, power, he'll learn as he's still young".

Rashford subsequently went to Euro 2016 as England's boy wonder but only played a cameo role in that tournament and was then largely a substitute at this summer's World Cup.

"In that position you have got to be world class. Rashford is not world class yet, but he might be at 23 or 24, as Lukaku has done". They play a lot of games so he will get his opportunity.

But according to The Sun, Rashford has no desire to leave Old Trafford.

A United source was quoted by the Sun, claiming that the striker would have a hard decision to make next summer.

It is not as straightforward for Pep as: 'Oh, I'll just give Phil a game.' Every decision you make as a manager has a knock-on effect and I understand how complicated that is.

Rashford is now suspended for three games after being sent off for violent conduct in United's 2-0 win over Burnley before the global break.

Southgate is confident that Rashford's spell away with England will have raised his morale, as he also netted in the 2-1 Nations League defeat against Spain on Saturday.
