European Union also preparing for 'No Deal Brexit'

European Union also preparing for 'No Deal Brexit'

May will get a chance to address European Union leaders at a dinner later Wednesday at the informal summit in the Austrian city of Salzburg, before a full day of talks on Thursday dominated by Brexit and the migration crisis.

The Prime Minister said during a press conference after the Salzburg meeting that she would not accept the EU's "backstop" plan to avoid a Northern Ireland hard border. But his bold comments only minutes after a private meeting with Mrs May that the plan "does not work", are more stark, and more damaging than expected. But instead, Tusk was blunt.

A French presidency source also said: "It is not up to us to express a preference on what might happen in Britain". "The suggested framework for economic cooperation will not work, not least because it risks undermining the single market".

May wants to keep the United Kingdom inside the bloc's single market for goods, but not services.

This would keep Northern Ireland under EU economic oversight if London and Brussels can not agree a trade pact to keep UK-EU borders open after a transition period ends in 2020 - an idea that May and a small party in the province that props up her minority government oppose.

The UK industry - already feeling the effects of a crackdown on diesel-powered cars in its largest European Union markets amid jittery demand - fears Brexit could result in lost access to vital European Union workers and massive costs from tariffs and additional red tape including supply chain disruption.

It was a good and courageous step by the prime minister [Theresa May]. Time is running short.

Brett Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge declines to testify about alleged sexual assault
McConnell and other top GOP leaders repeatedly stressed that Ford deserved to be heard and they hoped she would agree to testify. Dowd also tweeted he apparently has no interest in treating accused men including Kavanaugh fairly.

"Our industry is deeply integrated across both sides of the Channel, so we look to negotiators to recognize the needs of the whole European automotive industry and act swiftly to avoid disruption and damage", SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes said in a statement.

Macron added that it was true that Brexit negotiations had been complex and lengthy, but said: "That fact must not be exploited by those very people who are the cause of this problem, who got us into the Brexit situation and who now tell us that Europe is going from crisis to crisis".

The so-called Chequers plan would be unacceptable to European Union leaders, Tusk tells reporters. Another described her as "visibly nervous", and a third called her angry and "clearly rattled".

But Mrs May said Chequers was "the only credible and negotiable plan on the table that delivers no hard border in Northern Ireland and also delivers on the vote of the British people".

Mr Tusk said: "In October we expect maximum progress and results in the Brexit talks and then we will decide whether conditions are there to call an extra summit in November to finalise and formalise the deal". And they chose to join the European Union with its rules. But Chequers was the only game in town, she told reporters.

May was emphatic there would be no second referendum in Britain despite the difficulty of the negotiations and economic questions the country faces if a deal isn't reached with the EU. But May is understood to have told Varadkar it was an impossible deadline to meet.

She predicted a Canada-style free trade deal would be proposed, which would mean "red tape", a "blindfold Brexit" or a "no deal Brexit with Britain cut off from trade with Europe".
